The Jayaraman family and the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) jointly announce the Anupama Jayaraman Memorial Award for young women journalists for the year 2009.
The Award had been set up in the memory of Anupama Jayaraman, a young and promising Bangalore-based journalist who passed away in January 2006. Anupama was not only multi-talented and energetic, but she also demonstrated a keen interest in issues of human rights and social justice.
The Award is one of several efforts undertaken by her family to keep her concerns and ideas alive. It is meant to encourage and honour young women journalists who, like her, believe in meaningful journalism and have the courage and determination to write on issues relating to human rights and social justice. The Award will include a citation and a cheque for Rs. 15,000.
The 2009 Award will be for a woman print journalist in India. This year the Award has been extended from only English to all Indian languages.
Themes
The broad themes to be addressed in the entries are human rights and social justice, especially in the areas of basic needs (including access to natural resources), gender equality, and the environment and water.

Calling Women Entrepreneurs
In an effort to encourage, empower and educate potential women entrepreneurs to create their own business or social enterprise, as well as enable women entrepreneurs to grow their existing enterprise, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) in association with the Nadathur S. Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) will conduct a Management Program for Women Entrepreneurs at the IIMB campus from April 15 to May 27, 2009.
This unique program coordinated by IIMB faculty and held every summer since 2004 requires participants to prepare a business plan for their proposed or existing business or social enterprise. Many participants of previous programs have taken their business plan forward to start new enterprises or have initiated growth in their ongoing enterprise.
This program is specifically designed for women entrepreneurs and is focused on enabling them to identify viable business opportunities and develop a viable and sustainable plan for their proposed enterprise. All participants who attend a minimum of 90% of the scheduled classroom sessions, present their Business Plan to the group in class, and submit a copy of their Business Plan for evaluation, will receive a certificate of program completion from IIMB. First and second prizes with certificates will also be awarded for the presented business plans that are judged as best.
Last date for registration February 28, 2009
